PHP Tutorial
This free PHP tutorial introduces the major concepts and technologies involved with programming in PHP. The first two subjects provide an overview of PHP and discuss the installation and configuration process. The next several topics cover the fundamentals of PHP, from data structures to handling HTML forms to PHP functions to object-oriented PHP programming and so on. These subjects are at the heart of programming in PHP.
Later in the PHP tutorial are secondary topics related to PHP, like database interactions, file and server interactions, templates, and Web services. What these topics have in common is that they are not used in every Web site created, but are key to the success of PHP on the Web. Finally, this PHP tutorial wraps up with a security techniques overview and the best tools for developing PHP applications, like NuSphere's PhpED.

An Introduction to PHP
PHP is a programming language primarily used for making dynamic Web applications through server-side scripting. Created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, PHP is now managed by a large collaboration of world-wide developers. It has become the world's most popular technology for dynamic Web pages (alternatives are ASP.NET, JSP, ColdFusion, and CGI scripting), but it can be used for command-line scripting (and even desktop applications) as well.
PHP benefits from a simple syntax, making it easy to learn for even the non-programmer. At the same time, what can be accomplished usig PHP is virtually limitless, making it a powerful tool for the most seasoned, demanding developer. PHP code can be written in a procedural or object oriented manner, or by using a hybrid of the two methods.
Because PHP is an open-source technology, it can be installed and used at no cost. The easiest and fastest way to get started with PHP is to download the free trial of a PHP Integrated Development Environment like NuSphere's PhpED, which greatly facilitates development and debugging.
